What is TestDisk?

TestDisk is free, open-source data recovery software from CGSecurity. It was primarily designed to help you recover lost partitions and make non-booting disks bootable again when the cause is faulty software, certain viruses, or human error—such as accidentally deleting a partition table.

It is a powerful partition and data recovery utility that works at the file-system and partition-table level. We state clearly: TestDisk is a command-line utility. It does not offer a graphical point-and-click interface. Navigation is via keyboard in a terminal. Once you learn the flow—create log, select disk, partition type, analyze, search—it is manageable for many users.
